A $38,000 Smile That Saved Her: Former Addict Reborn After Life-Changing Dental Makeover

A 29-year-old woman who spiraled into addiction after losing her brother has become almost unrecognisable thanks to a life-changing dental makeover.

Former drug addict Brittany Negler, from Philadelphia, turned down a “dark path” following the death of her 18-year-old brother, using drugs to numb the grief that consumed her. Over time, her addiction took a severe toll on her teeth — she lost several and others began to rot.

Seeking help, Brittany visited a dentist, but claims she was told her teeth were “beyond repair.” Instead of offering treatment options, she says the dentist removed all of them. As a result, she couldn’t eat and rapidly lost weight, dropping to just 35kg and coming close to needing a feeding tube.

Desperate, she reached out to cosmetic dentist Dr. Kenny Wilstead, known as a “tooth fairy,” who provided her with a $38,000 dental transformation. Brittany documented her journey on TikTok, where the video drew more than 31.6 million views.

In the clip, Dr. Wilstead can be heard expressing disbelief:
“They literally pulled all your teeth and did dentures because of some minor issues.”

Brittany also believes the original practice “altered her dental records,” explaining:
“On there it says fixable by a root canal, but they never mentioned a root canal. They said my teeth weren’t fixable and had to be pulled.”

Although she was given dentures, they were so oversized that she couldn’t eat or even close her mouth properly.
“When I chew, there’s so much pain up here,” she said, noting that painful sores kept appearing on her gums.

She broke down in tears as she told Dr. Wilstead about the online bullying she endured, with people mocking her appearance.

“I don’t leave the house anymore. I won’t leave the house because it’s embarrassing. My face is sinking in.”

Everything changed when Dr. Wilstead fitted her with removable dentures that actually fit. The video shows her smiling at her reflection, then rushing to hug him in gratitude. In another clip, he and his wife take Brittany to a restaurant to make sure she can eat comfortably — her enthusiastic thumbs-up said it all.

Brittany didn’t disclose how she financed the procedure, though she did mention on TikTok that financing options are available.

In a separate emotional video filmed at Dr. Wilstead’s office in Garland, Texas, Brittany opened up about the trauma that led her down the path of addiction. Her other brother died from cancer at 18, a moment she had blamed herself for throughout her teens.

“For the longest time I thought I killed my brother,” she said through tears. He had Ewing sarcoma. One morning I woke up, felt like I shouldn’t go to school, so I laid in bed with him. Fifteen minutes later, I heard him gasp — and he died right there. I didn’t know any better. I thought I laid on his breathing tube or something.”

Her family fell apart soon after, and as a grieving teenager, Brittany turned to drugs, convinced she was responsible for his death.

“I went to a dark place,” she admitted. “I started hanging out with the wrong crowd, doing drugs to numb the pain. I got really depressed. I thought, ‘I need to take care of myself.’”

During rehab, she finally confessed the guilt she’d carried for years. Her family reassured her that it was simply “his time to go” — and that he would have wanted her by his side when he passed.
