A Baffling Puzzle and a Big Win on Wheel of Fortune

A recent episode of Wheel of Fortune left audiences scratching their heads over a food-centric puzzle that many felt defied logic. The controversy sparked during the September 24 broadcast, temporarily overshadowing a contestant’s impressive victory of more than $55,000.

The show introduced a trio of competitors: Megan Baldwin of Bossier City, Louisiana; Jaz Rackley of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Edwin McKinney-Hartsfield of Round Rock, Texas. Baldwin, an ex-athlete who has suffered nine broken bones over her athletic journey, started off with a bang by cracking the initial toss-up puzzle. McKinney-Hartsfield was right behind her, successfully answering the second one.

Following a challenging round plagued by bankruptcies, Baldwin secured $2,000 by deciphering “Lily & Crash Pad.” Rackley, who works as a certified personal trainer, picked up speed during the Mystery Round, accumulating $5,100 and temporarily seizing first place. Yet, attention quickly pivoted to a bizarre puzzle that thoroughly confused both the contestants and the audience at home.

The contentious incident took place under the “Rhyme Time” category. The ultimate solution turned out to be “Fine Wine & Good Mood Food.” Baldwin managed to solve it, winning an Argentinean getaway and $13,815, though only when the board was nearly entirely filled in. Viewers tuning in from their living rooms were highly critical.

Social media practically erupted in response.

“WTF? Good Mood Food?” asked an exasperated Reddit user.

“That was impossible to solve,” chimed in another viewer.

“Seriously! That is not a thing,” griped a third fan, while someone else admitted they had guessed the phrase was “Good Wood Food.”

Still, some viewers defended the show. One person pointed out, “I’ve actually heard that phrase before. The show has had weirder expressions.”

Nevertheless, numerous veteran fans felt the puzzle pushed the limits of fair play, with several calling it one of the most baffling answers ever featured on the beloved game show.

Despite the online uproar, the competition carried on. In the Triple Toss-Up segment, Baldwin cracked one puzzle, while McKinney-Hartsfield swept the remaining two. Rackley ended her run on a high note by figuring out “Buffalo Cauliflower” for $1,600, which brought her final score to $6,700. McKinney-Hartsfield wrapped up the night with $6,000. Meanwhile, Baldwin advanced to the Bonus Round boasting a total of $15,815.

For her ultimate test, Baldwin selected the “What Are You Doing?” category. Her son and boyfriend looked on with anticipation as the letters populated the board. Aided by her chosen letters—G, C, D, and I—she stared intently at the incomplete phrase:

At first, she blurted out, “Being Productive.” But with just moments to spare, she shifted her guess to “Being Proactive”—which was exactly right. That clutch answer secured an additional $40,000, boosting her grand total to a staggering $55,815.

The internet swiftly pivoted to praise, applauding her incredible late-game performance.

“Good solve!” cheered a YouTube commenter.

“What a solve!” added another.

In the end, Baldwin went home with a vacation, a pile of cash, and ultimate bragging rights—leaving audiences to endlessly debate whether “Good Mood Food” truly belongs in the Wheel of Fortune dictionary.
