Miracle Escape: All Survive Fiery Crash of Congo Delegation’s Aircraft
A chartered plane carrying a Congolese politician and 17 other officials skidded off the runway and burst into flames during an official visit.
According to local media, the aircraft was transporting the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Mines Minister, Louis Kabamba, along with a delegation of officials who were traveling to the site of a bridge collapse at the Kalando mine.
The collapse had killed at least 32 people after the bridge gave way under overcrowding. The jet accident occurred at Kolwezi Airport in the southern part of the country, the plane’s operator, Airjet Angola, confirmed in a statement posted on Facebook.
“Airjet informs about the tragic incident and takes a deep sense of responsibility for the matter involving one of our aircraft,” the airline’s public statement read.
Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, a fact confirmed by the airline. All passengers and crew were declared safe, though the aircraft was completely destroyed in the aftermath.
Dramatic footage captured passengers sprinting away from the burning aircraft, visibly shaken but grateful to have survived the ordeal.
