The Raggiana bird-of-paradise is undoubtedly one of the most distinctive birds in its range. Its beautiful silky bronze plumage, bright yellow crown, and dark emerald-green throat always make it conspicuous wherever it is found.
This stunning bird is also recognized for its long black tail feathers and large flank plumes, which make it strikingly distinctive among other birds.
Unlike the males, female birds have a drab maroonish-brown coloration and lack the long tail wires typically seen in males.

During their breeding season, male birds engage in a “dance” within leks, which are tall slender trees, in order to court females. Once mates are chosen, female birds take on the responsibility of constructing nests and laying eggs. They then incubate their eggs, usually one or two, for approximately 18 days.
