When Politics Meets Memes: Newsom Uses AI to Hit Back at Trump’s ‘Piggy’ Insult
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has stepped into the ongoing meme battle, using AI-generated images to ridicule Donald Trump after the president went viral for calling reporter Catherine Lucey “piggy.”
The incident occurred on November 14 aboard Air Force One, when Lucey began questioning Trump about newly released Epstein-related emails. Trump interrupted her, saying, “Quiet. Quiet, piggy,” a moment that quickly circulated online.
Newsom took advantage of the viral clip. His press office posted a series of AI-enhanced memes on X, portraying Trump as a pig in a variety of exaggerated scenarios — including unveiling a gold-plated redesign of the Oval Office and appearing on spoof magazine covers. They also shared a real photo of Trump with Jeffrey Epstein, captioned simply: “piggies.”
By Wednesday, the White House defended Trump’s comment, stating that the reporter had behaved “in an inappropriate and unprofessional way.”
That same evening, Trump announced he had signed legislation ordering the release of Epstein files, boasting on Truth Social that the DOJ had already provided Congress with nearly 50,000 pages and criticizing the Biden administration for previously releasing none.
