When a woman’s canine companion went missing while she was en route to California, it appeared as if he simply vanished without a trace. Little did she know that it would take over two years, the assistance of a private investigator, and a legal battle to bring her beloved pet back home.
The enigma commenced when Kameroun Mares was traveling to California, and her Siberian husky, Semper Fidelis, meaning “always faithful,” disappeared during her absence. Kameroun and her housemate scoured every possible location for Semper, but it was as if he had evaporated into thin air.
They diligently searched neighborhoods, animal shelters, erected signs, and combed through every conceivable place. Unfortunately, Mares, who was battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia, was devastated by her inability to locate her furry companion, whom she had acquired as a puppy following her diagnosis in 2013.
Determined to reunite with Semper, Mares enlisted the services of a private investigator named Ana Campos. As Campos embarked on her investigation, someone suggested to Mares that she reexamine the information stored on her pup’s AKC Reunite microchip.
She scrutinized the chip and, to her surprise, obtained her first lead. On April 11, 2016, she discovered that a woman had registered her name on Semper’s AKC chip. This revelation led her to uncover that an individual had sold her dog through a Craigslist ad for $200.
Subsequently, Campos stumbled upon an astonishing revelation. According to her findings, it was Mares’ roommate who had sold Semper, as she reported:
“He was taken and sold by her housemate 2 1/2 years ago,” Campos wrote on Facebook. “She was informed that he was lost on April 30, 2016. However, on April 11, 2016, the buyer added their name to his AKC Reunite ‘registered chip.’ They registered this chip on Petkey pets instead. Petkey pets neglected to verify if he was already microchipped.”
Equipped with the knowledge of the person who bought her pilfered dog, Mares brought the individual to court. Fortunately, the judge ruled in her favor, and Semper was reunited with her two and a half years after his disappearance.
Mares expressed, “I perceive him as a part of myself and my heart,” Mares expressed. “I am grateful to have him back in my embrace.”
Please share this incredible tale of reunion with your loved ones and acquaintances.
